Project Hero was developed with Jaguar Land Rover and the Red Cross to support rescue operations in the Austrian Alps. This was a more complex operational challenge than a standard vehicle install. The requirement was to create a communications platform that could support response teams in mountainous terrain, extend beyond the vehicle when needed, and give remote teams a clearer picture of the situation as it developed.

Challenge

Rescue work in alpine environments puts pressure on every part of the communications chain. Terrain affects coverage. Teams may need to work beyond the immediate reach of the vehicle. Fast decisions depend on getting the right information to the right people at the right time. For Project Hero, Jaguar Land Rover and the Red Cross needed a solution that could support reliable field communications, improve flexibility on the ground, and strengthen situational awareness across the wider response.

Solution

Servicom engineered an integrated vehicle-based communications solution designed for mountainous rescue operations. The system combined multiple-frequency radio capability to help maintain optimum coverage in difficult terrain, giving teams a stronger communications platform in an environment where signal conditions can change quickly.

The solution was also built with flexibility in mind. Equipment could be removed from the vehicle and deployed more widely, allowing the communications capability to move with the operation rather than stay tied to one platform. Alongside that, the system enabled live visual data transmission from drones to remote teams, giving decision-makers access to real-time imagery and a better operational view of events as they unfolded.

By bringing these elements together, Servicom created a setup that supported voice communications, field deployment and live visual intelligence in one joined-up system.
