| 28/05/08 | Servicom have supplied Mototrbo Digital Radio for the ambitious Makalu 2008 climb. To push the boundaries of British Services mountaineering teams will attempt to climb the notoriously difficult South East Ridge, while a second team will attempt to summit the same mountain by another demanding route on its northern side. Additionally a high altitude team will climb the remote Pethangste mountain and a junior team will attempt a challenging and remote high altitude trek. Over the last 35 years many attempts have been made on the mountain but to date there have only been 2 successful ascents of the South East Ridge integral and approximately 200 of the more traditional North East Ridge. To truly convey the challenge Makalu presents it is worth noting that a 10th of the number who have been successful on Everest have made the traditional North East Ridge climb. Incredibly the teams will attempt the ascents without the aid of supplementary oxygen. |
