Taking the brave decision to take the southern route the journey involved going through place such as Zagreb and Kosovo, but unfortunately hit a stumbling block when the team came across some rather unscrupulous border guards in Azerbiaijan. After loosing the majority of their possessions to the "authorities" the team were denied the ability to complete the rally........ whilst this was a rather unfortunate end to their rally their endeavors are to be applauded and a memorable time was had by all, and all the team returned in one piece !!!
The Team's HX446E radio communications became an essential means of communication; as stated by the team:
" They really came in useful; there were several instances where our team separated to speed tasks up, during boarder controls and especially in busy cities markets. They radios were great enabling us to keep in contact and regroup. At some points during the rally we joined forces with other teams and drove in convoy for safety reasons through dodgy parts of some countries, this enable us all to tune into the same radio frequency and share information, directions, and alerts, have general conversation and a good old bit of banter. Joking aside though after losing our convoy in Kosovo after taking a wrong turn, it was comforting to be able to radio ahead and ask the others teams to kindly wait. On a different occasion another team didn’t have a radio and in the spirit of charity we leant them one of ours as when drove though Albania. Luckily for us they were the only team that responded to our distress call when we ran out of petrol. Also as I’m sure you are aware how expensive mobile phone calls charges are in Europe and the further east you drive, despite our teams combine phone bills during the rally nearly totalling £600 the radios saved us a lot of money"
